Notre Dame de Paris -The Hunchback of Notre-Dame

ONLINE, premiering April 23 at 2 p.m. and remaining accessible for the rest of the Festival. Visit our Festival website the day of the event to join our audience.

Many of us are familiar with this story about Esmeralda and the three men who vie for her love in the shadow of the great Parisian cathedral. But the French musical version of Victor Hugo’s famous novel also introduces Clopin and the Castaways, a group of homeless people and migrants, and reflects on contemporary issues: the refugee crisis, police violence, racism, and xenophobia. Together scenic and costume designer Calypso Michelet and lighting designer Sydney Becker use new technologies such as 3D modeling, 3D printing, and laser cutting to bring to life a world that bridges past and present.

Made possible by a grant from the UMass Arts Council.
