Nostras Voces - Our Voices
UMass Students for Reproductive Justice
Including Alice Erickson (BFA)
UMass Students for Reproductive Justice is proud to announce our upcoming showcase! "Nostras Voces" is a student-created, activism-centered, multi-media art show. "Nostras Voces" is Latin for "Our Voices" and is an evolved version of the Vagina Monologues, encouraging artists of all genders, races, mediums, and experiences to join. The show will contain a gallery portion and a live performance. Admission is free + donations are accepted, snacks will be served.

Martha Wilson
Martha Wilson is a pioneering feminist artist and gallery director, who over the past four decades created innovative photographic and video works that explore her female subjectivity through role-playing, costume transformations, and "invasions" of other people's personae. In 1976 she also founded and continues to direct Franklin Furnace.

Palimpsest: Dialogue with a Collection Exhibition
This exhibition is something of a departure from UMCA’s series “Dialogue with a Collection”. Over the years, artists have been invited to integrate their own works with pieces they select from the museum's works-on-paper collection, which includes over 3000 contemporary prints, drawings, and photographs. This year Procheta Mukherjee Olson has opted to select one single artwork from UMCA’s collection by Yun-fei Ji, which she finds pivotal and meaningful to her own art practice.
In this Dialogue with a Collection, Procheta Mukherjee Olson explores the multiple ways in which her work parallels the formal and conceptual concerns of Yun Fei Ji’s “Three Gorges Dam Migration” (2002). A magnificent 32-feet-long hand scroll made with over 500-hand-carved woodblocks, this print from the University Museum’s permanent collection maps the massive social and psychological disruptions caused by the construction of the Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtse River in China.

A juried exhibition of recent work by MFA Alumni from the UMass Amherst Department of Art. This Open Call was juried by Laylah Ali, contemporary artist and Francis Christopher Oakley Third Century Professor of Art at Williams College; Emma Chubb, the inaugural Charlotte Feng Ford ’83 Curator of Contemporary Art at the Smith College Museum of Art in Northampton, MA, and Ajay Sinha, Professor and Chair of Art History at Mt. Holyoke College of Art.
As part of the opening event, there will be a panel discussion with the artists moderated by Department Chair, Professor Shona Macdonald, and Graduate Program Director, Professor Young Min Moon. Please join us at the reception to celebrate the artists and to hear more about their process and work!

"My first few weeks of student teaching have been the most immersive compared to any semester before. Although it’s nerve wracking at times being looked over by a bunch of high school critics, most of them are incredibly forthcoming and engaged in the lessons I’m making for them. There’s always a fair share of students who will try to test your patience and push you to your limit, but I’m making sure to take it all in. Since, teaching is an equal balance of good days and bad, it’s important to be able to take it all in at the end of the day and assess both my progress and struggles. Which I’m doing constantly in my practicum."

Berkshire Art Association Fellowship 2020
Berkshire Art Association Fellowships have been awarded annually since the early 1970s to encourage emerging college artists in their choice of visual arts as a means of expression. Fellowships are open to any enrolled college student majoring in art who either grew up in Berkshire County or goes to college in Berkshire County. Jurors are artists, art educators and other art professionals. They will award $5000 in prizes this year. Visit the BAA website berkshireartassociation.org to view recent BAA Fellowship Shows.
Not open to high school seniors or graduate students

Summer Residency and Exhibition: Open Call
Seeking Studio Art MFA Students
Locust Projects, Miami’s longest-running alternative art space, invites graduate-level artists to submit project proposals for an exhibition in our 400-sq ft Project Room during the summer of 2020. Exhibition proposals should reflect an expansion of an artist’s practice in conceptual scope, scale, or media. Proposals can reflect new work that will be created for the exhibition that has never been presented before or work created on site. Priority will be given to projects that demonstrate exceptionally unique methods, processes, or concepts, particularly those that could not be presented in a traditional gallery setting with an emphasis on site-specificity and installation. Jabberwocky is open for submissions for Spring 2020!
Jabberwocky, the English Department’s official undergraduate literary journal, is looking for submissions for its Spring 2020 issue! We publish once at the end of the semester and you can submit:
- Up to three pieces of short fiction,
- Up to six poems,
- Up to three pieces of literary criticism/nonfiction,
- And as much visual art as you’d like!
All majors are encouraged to submit, so tell your friends! The submission deadline is March 31. Please email all submissions as attachments to umassjabberwocky@gmail.com. Questions or concerns can be sent to this address as well.
