Minors Advising
Advising for Minors takes place on Tuesday, April 2, from 9:00 am - 1:30 pm,
in Room 240, Studio Arts Building.

Changes to Regular Advising Hours
Due to changes this week in the advising schedule, we’d like to announce that advisors will be available on Tuesday, 9 – 11 am, for walk-in, and Wednesday from 2 – 4 pm, by appointment. Call 413-545-6937 to schedule a session on Wed.

HFA Needs Your Help!
The HFA wants to hire 10 students for the Senior Recognition Ceremony.
The Ceremony will be held before Graduation on May 10,
at the Recreation Center from 11:45 am to 3:15 pm. Pay: $55 for 3 ½ hours.
Fill out this brief form if you are interested.
Priority given to those who apply before April 11.

BFA Student Caroline Murphy Lands a Career!
Starting in June, Caroline will be working for her sorority's national headquarters as a National Leadership Consultant for Chi Omega. Chi Omega is the largest woman's organization and has 181 active chapters around the country.
"As a National Leadership Consutant I will be traveling to campuses across the nation and working face-to-face with the chapter's collegiate leaders. National Leadership Consultant works with the chapter members on areas ranging from Ritual to leadership development, chapter programming to risk reduction, and morale to communication."

What's So Funny? How Humor Makes Us Think
Co-curated by Kayla Peterson (M.A. Art History, 2020) and Siyu Shen (M.A. Art History, 2020), What’s So Funny? How Humor Makes Us Think explores how humor may be used to provoke serious conversations on topics surrounding the political, social, and sexual climate of our world. Viewing art within the context of humor creates opportunities for new perspectives and expectations which will lead viewers to ask: What’s so funny, and why? Do you feel uncomfortable laughing when others are not? Or do you feel the need to laugh with others?

FalCon is the Library's first-ever multi-genre, miniature comic convention intended to showcase Library and University resources, offer networking opportunities, and create an enjoyable engagement event for the UMass Amherst community. Events include: craft room, RSO showcase, scavenger hunt and zine workshop among others!

Baltazar Castellano Melo
In this extraordinary exhibition, Baltazar Castellano Melo places his gaze on Mexico’s Black population. Born in Cuajinicuilapa, a region of Guerrera, Mexico, and the son of a Black mother and mestizo (mixed-race) Mexican father, his work is a fervent example of what is possible when artmaking meets research.

Pioneer Valley Excellence in Teaching Award
Each year the Grinspoon Foundation recognizes teachers across the Pioneer Valley for the excellent job they do in teaching. Many of our Art Ed graduates have been the proud recipients if this prestegious honor. Congratulations to Christie Bianchi Chisholm, MA-Art Ed '11, of Springfield Central High School for being one of this year's honored recipients.

2019 Summer Internships at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston
The MFA just published descriptions for over thirty summer internship opportunities. Departments include: Conservation & Collections Management; Development; Education; Exhibitions & Design; Intellectual Property; Volunteer and Community Engagement; and several curatorial departments.
Jabberwocky Submissions
Jabberwocky publishes once at the end of the semester and you can submit:
- Up to three pieces of short fiction
- Up to six poems
- Up to three pieces of literary criticism/nonfiction
- And as much visual art as you’d like!
All majors are encouraged to submit, so tell your friends! The submission deadline is April 3. Please email all submissions as attachments to:
