Drawing Marathon
On Saturday, September 29, the Department of Art held their inaugural Drawing Marathon in the Studio Arts Building (images above). The event featured workshops and sessions created and run by several graduate students, as well as floor to ceiling papered walls for students, faculty, and members of the public, to freely draw upon. We had a very good turnout for the event and are looking forward to ‘Drawing Marathon’ redux in either 2019 or 2020.

For Freedoms Town Hall: Art, Activism, and Social (In)Justice?
The UMCA will host a series of events in partnership with ForFreedoms.
The For Freedoms 50 State Initiative is comprised of a national network of artists and institutions across the country who will stage art actions, town hall meetings, and special exhibitions to encourage broad participation and inspire conversation during the upcoming midterm elections. Founded by artists Eric Gottesman and Hank Willis Thomas and inspired by Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Four Freedoms (1941) — freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear — For Freedoms uses art to encourage and deepen public explorations of freedom in the 21st century.
The UMCA For Freedoms events are presented in partnership with the UMass Art Department, the Feinberg Family Distinguished Lecture Series and the Women of Color Leadership Network - CWC with support from a Campus Climate Improvement Grant from the UMass Office of Equity and Inclusion and the Friends of the Fine Arts Center.
