The State of Massachusetts recently released the Decarbonization Roadmap, which identifies cost-effective and equitable strategies to ensure that our state reduces greenhouse gas emissions by at least 85% by 2050 and achieves net-zero emissions. Associate Professor Ajla Aksamija has served on the Technical Steering Committee for this study since 2019. The study considered built and natural environment, and analyzed methods to decarbonize buildings, transportation, electricity, and non-energy sectors. The study also analyzed policy implementation, including economic costs and benefits, public health impacts, changes to the landscape and benefits for climate change resilience. The building sector report is especially of interest to our faculty, students, alumni and professionals who reside and practice in Massachusetts.
